Welcome back to Sonia Voyage!🌻
Hey, how are you? Don't forget to have a drink, okay? I want all readers who come here to be healthy and happy❤
Today, we’re diving into the complex and often overwhelming world of our own minds. Have you ever felt trapped by your thoughts, like they were holding you hostage and there was no way out? I know I have.
In my latest poem, "The Prison of Mind," I explore the darker side of our mental landscape where overthinking, envy, and self-doubt can make us feel like we’re our own worst enemies. I wrote this piece as a way to confront those emotions that we all try to hide behind a smile and a casual "I'm fine." Sometimes, we carry a lot more weight than we let on, and it’s important to acknowledge those feelings, even if just to ourselves.
As I penned this poem, I found myself reflecting on how easy it is to get lost in negative thoughts, letting them spiral until they become a prison of our own making. But by writing about it, I realized that sharing these struggles can be the first step to breaking free.
The Prison of Mind
by Uni Sonia Yulianti
Smiling face I gave every single time
Like a well-worn lie, I say 'fine'
A heavy weight presses on my chest
But I mask my despair
Overthink haunted me
It whispers of their growing distance
Those once I knew now bring me sorrow
What did I do?
Envy courses through my veins
Inviting its friends anger and stfire
Blame myself because I can't conquer
It's getting worse than insecure
What should I do?
Peace eludes me day by day
Who can I talk to?
A mirage of hope, that fades away
ANALYSIS OF THE POEM
"Smiling face I gave every single time, Like a well-worn lie, I say 'fine'"
The speaker frequently puts on a facade of happiness, masking their true emotions with a smile and the word "fine," which has become a routine lie. This suggests they are hiding their struggles from others.
"A heavy weight presses on my chest, But I mask my despair"
The speaker is burdened by deep emotional pain or anxiety ("a heavy weight on my chest"), but they continue to conceal their true feelings from those around them, possibly out of fear or a desire to avoid burdening others.
"Overthink haunted me, It whispers of their growing distance"
The speaker is plagued by overthinking, which manifests as internal voices or thoughts that suggest the people they care about are drifting away from them, increasing their sense of isolation and sadness.
"Those once I knew now bring me sorrow, What did I do?"
The speaker reflects on past relationships that have changed or deteriorated, leaving them feeling sorrowful and confused, questioning what they might have done wrong to cause this distance.
"Envy courses through my veins, Inviting its friends anger and strife"
The speaker admits that envy always arises within them when they see others' achievements, which in turn fuels feelings of anger and resentment ("strife") towards themselves and others. This indicates that negative thoughts and emotions dominate the speaker, making them uncontrollable.
"Blame myself because I can't conquer, It's getting worse than insecure"
The speaker blames themselves for being unable to overcome these negative emotions, recognizing that their self-doubt and insecurity are deepening, leading to a worsening emotional state.
"What should I do? Peace eludes me day by day"
The speaker feels lost and desperate, unable to find peace or a way out of their turmoil as each day passes, suggesting a sense of hopelessness or frustration with their situation.
"Who can I talk to? A mirage of hope, that fades away"
The speaker expresses a longing for someone to confide in, but they feel that any hope they find is illusory, disappearing as quickly as it appears, reinforcing their sense of loneliness and despair.
Overall Analysis
The poem, "The Prison of Mind," powerfully captures the internal struggles of someone trapped in their own thoughts and emotions. The title itself suggests that the speaker feels imprisoned by their mind, unable to break free from the negative cycles of overthinking, envy, and self-blame. Throughout the poem, the speaker portrays the facade they maintain, the burden of emotional pain they carry, and the isolation they feel as their relationships change. The imagery of overthinking as a haunting force and the depiction of envy and anger as overwhelming emotions highlight the speaker's deep inner turmoil.
The final stanza encapsulates the speaker's desperation for peace and understanding, but also their fear that these desires are unattainable. The "mirage of hope" symbolizes the fleeting moments of optimism that quickly disappear, leaving the speaker feeling more isolated and hopeless. Overall, this poem reflects the painful experience of being trapped in one's own mind, struggling with emotions that seem impossible to conquer, and yearning for a connection or solution that remains out of reach.
